My Thoughts on Brother-in-Law, I’m Pregnant!
Okay, buckle up, because "Brother-in-Law, I’m Pregnant!" is quite the ride. It’s a completed yaoi novel with some seriously heavy themes, so going in prepared is key. I dove in knowing it was going to be adult, dramatic, and smutty, but even then, I was… surprised.
First Impressions
My initial reaction was definitely mixed. The story throws you headfirst into a world of abusive characters, BDSM, and some pretty dark situations. The relationship between the MC and ML is… complicated, to say the least. It's not a fluffy romance, and that's putting it mildly.
What Works Well
Honestly, the biggest praise I can give is to the translator. Several readers have pointed out the translation quality, and I have to agree. The writing is very vivid and descriptive. Some readers also praised the author's creativity in using flowery language to describe certain… anatomical features. I'll admit, it was definitely unique, even if it wasn't always my cup of tea. If you're looking for a novel that doesn't shy away from explicit content, this definitely delivers. And, for some, the absurdity of it all adds a layer of dark humor.
Areas of Concern
This is where things get tricky. A major sticking point is the problematic nature of the relationship. The ML's actions are… not good. Like, seriously not good. Many have described him as a rapist and a complete a**hole, and it's hard to argue with that. The MC is often seen as weak or even unlikeable, and the plot, for some, feels secondary to the smut. There's a heavy dose of dubious consent, and the potential for Stockholm syndrome is definitely present.

Some specific plot points that raised eyebrows included the ML’s initial attraction to the MC based solely on his appearance and the MC’s ill-advised attempts to confront the ML without a plan. The ending, or lack thereof, also left many feeling unsatisfied, especially regarding the pregnancy and the fates of other characters.

"Brother-in-Law, I’m Pregnant!" is definitely not for everyone. If you're sensitive to themes of abuse, r*pe, or dubious consent, steer clear. However, if you're looking for a dark, smutty read with a heavy emphasis on explicit content and are willing to suspend your disbelief, this might be something you find strangely compelling. Just go in with your eyes wide open, and maybe a strong drink.
