My Thoughts on Because I’ve Been Reincarnated as the Piggy Duke, This Time I Will Say I Like You (WN)
First Impressions
Alright, so I dove into "Because I’ve Been Reincarnated as the Piggy Duke, This Time I Will Say I Like You (WN)" with a bit of trepidation. The title is a mouthful, and the "reincarnated as a villain" trope is well-trodden ground. However, I was intrigued by the "fat to fit" tag and the promise of some good old-fashioned romance. The initial chapters definitely hooked me with the MC's determination to change his fate.
What Works Well
One thing that really grabbed me was the character depth. The author seems to put in the effort to give the heroines and supporting characters a solid background. I appreciated getting a glimpse into their pasts and understanding their motivations. I also found myself enjoying the simple, straightforward plot. It's not trying to be overly complex, and that makes it easy to get invested in the MC's journey to confess his feelings and maybe save the world along the way. The comedy, while sometimes over the top, did get a chuckle out of me on occasion. The MC's determination to break free from his predetermined role and win over the girl he likes is genuinely engaging.
Areas of Concern
I did find myself getting frustrated with the pacing at times. The story sometimes jumps around without much warning, making it hard to follow the flow of events. Some of the plot developments feel a bit random, like going from point A to K and then suddenly to C. The author could do a better job of foreshadowing and creating smoother transitions.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Okay, so here's where I'm going to touch on some potential spoilers. Several readers have mentioned that the MC's character can feel inconsistent. One minute he's self-deprecating, the next he's confident, and then he's suddenly a master schemer. This lack of a consistent personality can make it hard to connect with him. Also, the "buhi buhi" pig noises, while initially funny, apparently get old pretty fast.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Because I’ve Been Reincarnated as the Piggy Duke, This Time I Will Say I Like You (WN)" is a decent read if you're looking for something lighthearted and don't mind some flaws. It's got its charms, like the character development and simple plot, but the pacing issues and inconsistent characterization can be frustrating. I'd give it a solid 3 out of 5 stars. It's not a masterpiece, but it's an enjoyable enough way to spend some time.
