Who it's for, and whether it holds up.
My Thoughts on An S-class Adventurer, Banished as the Tank of the Party, Uses His “S*ave Release” Skill To Build the Strongest Country in History!
This title is certainly a mouthful, and after diving in, my experience was… mixed, to say the least. It seems like this novel has a very specific audience in mind, and whether you'll enjoy it depends heavily on your tolerance for certain tropes and, frankly, absurdity.
First Impressions
The initial premise is pretty standard isekai fare: a protagonist unfairly banished from his party, only to discover he's secretly the backbone of the whole operation. From there, he gains a unique skill – "S*ave Release" – and sets out to build his own nation. So far, so good, right? But things quickly take a turn into the bizarre.
What Works Well
I can see the appeal for some readers. The initial concept of freeing slaves and building a nation has potential. Some readers have mentioned that they found the story entertaining, especially if you're not overly critical and enjoy a good laugh at the ridiculousness of it all. I can see how the power fantasy elements could be appealing, and there's a certain charm in the sheer audacity of the plot.
Areas of Concern
Okay, here's where things get tricky. The story seems incredibly rushed, with character development taking a backseat to… other things. Several reviewers pointed out the protagonist's extreme density, bordering on unbelievable, and the seemingly endless stream of women throwing themselves at him. The "S*ave Release" skill is also questionable, essentially abducting people.
Then there's the… content. Let's just say the novel leans heavily into the "adult" and "ecchi" genres, with frequent and explicit scenes. Some readers found this excessive and even disturbing, particularly the implications surrounding certain character types. The plot seems to devolve into a series of s*xual escapades with very little actual nation-building taking place. I can't deny that the author seems to have gotten distracted by the harem aspects.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
(Proceed with caution if you haven't read the novel!)
Some reviewers mentioned that the protagonist gets a "magic D" that grants him… enhanced abilities in the bedroom. This leads to increasingly absurd and frequent s*x scenes, with the story seemingly prioritizing these encounters over plot progression. There are also concerns raised about the portrayal of certain characters, particularly those who are depicted as being much younger than they appear.
Final Verdict
Ultimately, "An S-class Adventurer, Banished as the Tank of the Party, Uses His “S*ave Release” Skill To Build the Strongest Country in History!" is a very niche novel. If you're looking for a serious isekai with intricate world-building and compelling characters, this isn't it. However, if you're in the mood for a brainless, over-the-top harem adventure with a heavy dose of absurdity and don't mind some questionable content, you might find some enjoyment here. Just be prepared to suspend your disbelief – and maybe your morals – at the door. For me, it's a pass, but I can see why some readers might find it amusing.
