My Thoughts on After Transmigration, The Male Lead and I had a HE
"After Transmigration, The Male Lead and I had a HE" promised a fluffy, comedic ride, and while it delivered on some fronts, other aspects left me wanting more. It's a complete story, which is always a plus, and the premise of transmigrating into a villainess-type character has definite appeal.
First Impressions
I was initially drawn in by the promise of a cute and comedic story. The idea of a female lead trying to navigate a world she only knows from a novel is inherently interesting. The early chapters had a certain charm, especially the interactions between the MC and the male lead as they navigated high school life.
What Works Well
Many found the story to be a lighthearted and enjoyable read, particularly if you're looking for something without heavy angst or complex plots. The possessive nature of the male lead was a plus for some, adding a touch of excitement to the romance. I can see the appeal of the "healing" aspect, where both leads find solace in each other. There's a definite shoujo manga feel to it, with "unexpectedly" shameful events and comedic timing that can be entertaining if you're in the mood for that kind of story. The side characters were unique and went well with the story.
Areas of Concern
However, I also encountered some significant issues. A recurring criticism revolves around the female lead's actions and thought processes. Several readers felt she acted without thinking, undermining her goal of being a "passerby" and creating unnecessary problems. Her interactions with the male lead were seen as hypocritical by some, as she actively sought his attention while claiming to want to avoid him. The constant coincidences and forced encounters between the leads felt contrived and lessened my enjoyment. The later part of the story, especially the post-high school arc, feels rushed and incomplete, leaving several plot points unresolved. The ending, with the separation trope, was also a letdown for some. The chemistry between the leads felt lacking, and the male lead's "dirty jokes" were cringe-worthy.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers pointed out specific plot points that bothered them. The menstrual period leak in the men's locker room with ML was a cliché. The story goes into detail about MC and ML's necks, legs, and other body parts with such exaggeratedly peverted wordings that made me cringe, yet failed miserably when when writing off some (clearly) sxual scenes. There's a teary reunion during a buisness dinner. The original FL showed up like a third rate villainous passerby with few appearance & quick ending. The story also makes extra chapters where it was shown that they might have been together in their previous lives.
Final Verdict
Overall, "After Transmigration, The Male Lead and I had a HE" is a mixed bag. If you're looking for a fluffy, low-stakes romance with a possessive male lead, you might find it enjoyable. However, be prepared for a somewhat cliché plot, inconsistent character behavior, and a rushed ending. It's a fun and comedic read.
