My Thoughts on After Rebirth, The Prime Minister Just Wants to Call It Quits
"After Rebirth, The Prime Minister Just Wants to Call It Quits" promised a blend of political intrigue, romance, and a healthy dose of humor, and for the most part, it delivered. I found myself drawn into the story of a prime minister reborn and his attempts to escape his past, only to be pulled back in by a determined general and a brewing rebellion.
First Impressions
Initially, I was intrigued by the premise. A modern-day transmigrator reborn into ancient China, trying to lay low after a turbulent first life? Sign me up! The early chapters introduce us to our MC, who is indeed quite the talker. I can see how some readers might find his constant chatter a bit much, but I personally found it endearing, especially when it came to teasing the stoic ML.
What Works Well
The plot, for one, is genuinely engaging. The mystery surrounding the MC's past life and the reasons behind his tarnished reputation kept me guessing. I appreciated how the author slowly reveals information, building suspense and making me eager to uncover the truth.
I also enjoyed the dynamic between the MC and ML. The MC's playful personality clashes wonderfully with the ML's serious demeanor, creating some genuinely funny and heartwarming moments. The ML's devotion to the MC is clear from the start, and watching their relationship develop, despite the misunderstandings and obstacles, was a highlight. Many readers praised the slow-burn romance and the way the author portrayed their growing feelings for each other.
Areas of Concern
While I generally enjoyed the MC's talkative nature, I can understand why some readers found it overwhelming or even felt that it undermined his intelligence. There were moments where his actions seemed inconsistent with his supposed strategic brilliance, which did create a bit of dissonance.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Several reviewers expressed concern regarding a dubcon situation involving side characters. This event understandably led some readers to drop the novel, as it introduced an element that felt unnecessary and out of place.
Final Verdict
Despite some flaws, "After Rebirth, The Prime Minister Just Wants to Call It Quits" is an enjoyable read, especially if you're a fan of danmei with a strong plot and engaging characters. The romance, mystery, and political intrigue are well-balanced, and the MC and ML's relationship is genuinely heartwarming. Just be aware of the potential trigger regarding the side couple. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
