My Thoughts on After Rebirth, I Became the Scum Gong’s Uncle’s Destined Omega
This title certainly grabs your attention, and after diving in, I found a story with some interesting elements, though not without its quirks. Overall, it was a solid read, but I can see why opinions are a bit divided.
First Impressions
The initial premise is intriguing: a reborn MC, a "scum gong," and a destined-lover twist with the uncle. The futuristic, mecha-infused world also had potential. I was initially hooked by the first few chapters, eager to see how the MC would navigate his second chance. The world-building, though, felt a bit underdeveloped, more like a backdrop than a fully realized setting.
What Works Well
The core romance between the MC and ML definitely has its appeal. I appreciated the gradual development of their relationship, particularly how the MC slowly transforms into an Omega and becomes compatible with the ML. The ML, Lu Taipan, is a powerful, protective figure, and I enjoyed his straightforwardness and obsession with the MC. Some readers found the dynamic sweet, and I agree that there are moments of genuine tenderness. The Snake Den setting and the Vipers, the ML's elite soldiers, added a unique flavor to the story. The author does a good job of portraying the ML's internal struggle to restrain his possessiveness. The side characters were also interesting to read about, especially the steward.
Areas of Concern
The biggest sticking point for me, and for many other readers, is the portrayal of the so-called "scum gong," Lu Zhizhao. I didn't entirely buy into his "scum" status. His actions often seemed driven by naivety and manipulation rather than genuine malice. In fact, some readers feel deep sympathy for him, viewing him as a victim of circumstance. This ambiguity made the MC's rejection of him feel somewhat forced. Additionally, the MC's character development felt a bit weak. Despite his past life experiences, he often came across as indecisive and overly reliant on the ML. The dynamic can be uncomfortable, with the MC seemingly allowing himself to be "locked up" by the ML. Also, there are some dark themes throughout the story that may not be for everyone.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers may find the ending for the "scum gong" unsatisfactory, as it is quite tragic.
Final Verdict
"After Rebirth, I Became the Scum Gong’s Uncle’s Destined Omega" is a mixed bag. While the romance and unique world-building elements are appealing, the underdeveloped characters and questionable "scum gong" portrayal hold it back. I'd recommend it with reservations, especially if you're a fan of omegaverse stories with possessive male leads and are willing to overlook some of the darker themes and character inconsistencies. I would rate it a solid 3.5/5 stars.
