My Thoughts on After I was Exiled, I Became a Noble Minister
"After I was Exiled, I Became a Noble Minister" promised a strong female lead in an ancient setting, and after diving in, I can see why it's garnered so much attention. It’s a wild ride of transmigration, exile, and a whole lot of political maneuvering.
First Impressions
The opening is definitely attention-grabbing. Our MC finds herself in a tough spot right away, exiled and having to make the best of a bad situation. The initial scenes of her resourcefulness really pulled me in, especially how she manages to secure necessities and even marriage contracts during the chaotic house raiding. It sets the stage for an MC who isn't afraid to take charge.
What Works Well
Mu Wanqing, the female lead, is the undisputed star of this novel. She's intelligent, sassy, and incredibly decisive. It's refreshing to see a female lead who doesn't back down and actively shapes her own destiny. The story really shines in its portrayal of her journey to become an official. Watching her use her modern knowledge to introduce innovations like soap, cement, and new agricultural techniques is incredibly satisfying. I particularly enjoyed how the novel explores the empowerment of women in a patriarchal society, making it more than just a simple transmigration story. The humor woven throughout the narrative is also a major plus, providing a lighthearted counterpoint to the more serious themes.
Areas of Concern
While Mu Wanqing's strength is a major draw, it also leads to some imbalances. The supporting characters often feel overshadowed, and some plot threads are left unresolved. The pacing can also be a bit uneven, with problems being solved a little too quickly at times. The romance aspect is definitely a subplot, if even that. If you're looking for a central love story, you might be disappointed, as the MC's career and personal goals take precedence. There's also a sense that the author might have lost their way a bit towards the end, with some antagonists being dealt with rather abruptly.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers have pointed out that the MC's "OP-ness" can stretch believability. Her encyclopedic knowledge and ability to implement various technologies without facing significant resistance might strain suspension of disbelief for some. Additionally, the lack of consequences for some of her actions, such as the tendon-cutting spree, can feel a bit unrealistic in the historical context.
Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "After I was Exiled, I Became a Noble Minister" is an engaging and entertaining read. The strong female lead, combined with the blend of historical setting and modern ingenuity, makes it a unique and enjoyable experience. If you're looking for a novel with a confident, independent MC who defies expectations, this might be right up your alley. Just be prepared for a story where romance takes a backseat and some plot points might feel a bit rushed.
