My Thoughts on After Being Tricked into Marriage by My Ex [Transmigration]
"After Being Tricked into Marriage by My Ex [Transmigration]" is a wild ride of drama, romance, and a whole lot of hospital visits, at least from my perspective after diving into this completed novel. It's definitely not a story for the faint of heart, and going in, I knew I was signing up for something that might push my buttons a bit, especially with the "mature" and "tragedy" tags.
First Impressions
I was immediately intrigued by the premise. A lawyer transmigrating into his ex's life? Sign me up! The initial chapters promised a complex relationship, and I was ready for some serious bickering and maybe a little revenge. However, I quickly realized that the title and synopsis don't quite capture the full scope of the story. It's less about a simple trick and more about navigating a web of complicated relationships and past actions.
What Works Well
The MC, Cen Jing, is a definite highlight. His wit, intelligence, and ability to read people made him a compelling character to follow. I enjoyed watching him navigate the cutthroat business world and stand up for himself, even when things got incredibly messy. The translation is also top-notch, making the story flow smoothly and adding to the overall enjoyment. Plus, the author isn't afraid to delve into morally grey areas, which I always appreciate. The story doesn’t shy away from the fact that smart, successful people can be ruthless, and that actions have consequences. The author also managed to put a fresh spin on some very basic tropes, which gave the story a unique spirit.
Areas of Concern
Okay, let's talk about the ML, He Cidong. He's...controversial, to say the least. I can definitely see why some readers find him problematic. His initial coldness, controlling behavior, and the whole "white moonlight" situation with Yao Wenyu definitely raised some red flags for me. I also struggled with some inconsistencies in the writing, particularly regarding Cen Jing's intelligence and decision-making. There were moments where his actions seemed out of character, almost as if the plot needed him to make a questionable choice. And honestly, the number of times Cen Jing ended up in the hospital became a bit comical after a while. It almost felt like a running gag.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Okay, let's address some spoiler-heavy points. The "world reset" plot twist felt a bit clunky and confusing. It wasn't executed as smoothly as it could have been, and it raised more questions than answers. Also, He Cidong's actions towards the end, including drugging and essentially kidnapping Cen Jing, were definitely disturbing and hard to justify, even within the context of the story.
Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, I found "After Being Tricked into Marriage by My Ex [Transmigration]" to be an engaging, albeit frustrating, read. The strong MC, complex relationships, and morally grey characters kept me hooked, even when I wanted to throw my Kindle across the room. It's not a perfect novel, and it's definitely not for everyone, but if you're looking for a dramatic and angsty story with a healthy dose of romance, this might be worth checking out. Just be prepared for a bumpy ride.
