My Thoughts on You Can’t Be Fierce Towards Me!
"You Can’t Be Fierce Towards Me!" promised a fluffy, comedic romance with a cute protagonist and doting love interest. While it delivers on some of those promises, it also stumbles in a few key areas, leaving me with mixed feelings.
First Impressions
The premise definitely grabbed my attention. A reborn MC seeking revenge, a seemingly fierce ML, and the promise of ancient China hijinks? Sign me up! The initial chapters were indeed engaging, setting the stage for a potentially delightful story. I was excited to see how the characters would develop and how the plot would unfold.
What Works Well
The core of the story, the relationship between the MC and ML, has its moments. The ML is adoring, and many readers have found him to be a refreshing change from the often problematic MLs in the danmei genre. There's a definite sweetness to the romance, and when the story focuses on the interactions between the two, it shines. The MC, despite some flaws, is generally likeable, especially at the beginning. The novel is good for a light read with supporting and funny friends and a loving family.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, several aspects held me back from fully enjoying this novel. The most persistent complaint revolves around the translation. The chapters are divided into numerous small parts, making the reading experience tedious and disruptive. This significantly detracts from the overall enjoyment, turning what should be a pleasant escape into a frustrating chore.
⚠️ ### Spoiler Warning ⚠️
Beyond the translation issues, the MC's character development takes a nosedive after meeting the ML. He regresses into a childish, crybaby persona, which feels inconsistent with his past life and supposed desire for revenge. His special plant-talking ability feels like a wasted plot point, rarely used and adding little to the story. I also felt the ML's initial actions, particularly the kidnapping and "male pet" teasing, were off-putting and undermined his supposedly caring nature.
Final Verdict
"You Can’t Be Fierce Towards Me!" has potential, but it's ultimately hindered by inconsistent character development and a frustrating translation. While the core romance and comedic elements offer some enjoyment, the flaws are too significant to ignore. I'd recommend approaching this one with caution, perhaps waiting for a more streamlined translation before diving in.
