My Thoughts on The Misunderstood Saintly Life of a Villainous Scion ~ I Just Want to Do Whatever I Want in My Second Life~
First Impressions
Okay, so the title is a mouthful, right? But it definitely grabbed my attention. The whole "misunderstood villain" trope is something I usually enjoy, and the promise of a second life where the protagonist just does whatever he wants sounded like a fun power fantasy. I dove in hoping for some clever schemes and hilarious misunderstandings.
What Works Well
The premise itself is intriguing. The idea of a protagonist who thinks he's being villainous but actually ends up doing good deeds is a classic setup for comedy, and there are moments where the author nails that comedic timing. The world-building, while fairly standard fantasy fare, is solid enough to keep the story moving. I also appreciated the lighthearted tone; it's definitely a story that doesn't take itself too seriously, which can be a refreshing change of pace. The pacing is consistent, making it easy to pick up and read in short bursts.
Areas of Concern
Honestly, I was a little disappointed that the "villainous" aspect felt somewhat lacking. The MC's attempts at being evil often come across as superficial, and the "misunderstandings" don't always land as effectively as I'd hoped. He says he's going to manipulate people, but he ends up helping them, which makes the "villainous scion" part of the title feel a bit misleading. The action sequences, while present, could use some more oomph. They weren't particularly memorable, and I found myself skimming through them at times. The harem aspect felt a bit generic as well; the female characters, while likeable, didn't stand out as much as I would have preferred.
Final Verdict
"The Misunderstood Saintly Life of a Villainous Scion" is a decent read if you're looking for something light and entertaining. It's not going to blow your mind with its originality or depth, but it offers a fun, albeit somewhat predictable, escape. I'd say it's worth checking out if you're a fan of the genre, but don't expect a masterpiece. I'd give it a solid 3/5 stars.
