My Thoughts on My Exes Are Everywhere
First Impressions
Okay, so I dove into My Exes Are Everywhere expecting a fun, possibly chaotic, ride, and it definitely delivered on the chaos! The premise alone – a protagonist with seven exes scattered across multiple realms – is enough to pique anyone's interest, especially when you throw in elements of xianxia, comedy, and a touch of tragedy. I went in blind and was pleasantly surprised.
What Works Well
The author, Ji Moyao, is clearly skilled at crafting engaging scenarios. I was particularly impressed by the unique structure, where the protagonist's past lives aren't presented in chronological order. This kept me guessing and added layers to the overarching mystery surrounding Qiao Xuan's existence. The main character himself is a comedic force, and his attempts to dodge his former flames were genuinely entertaining. I also appreciated the romance between Qiao Xuan and his master. It was a slow burn, but well worth it.
Areas of Concern
While I thoroughly enjoyed the novel, there were a few aspects that held it back from being a perfect read. The "flashbacks," or rather, the detailed retellings of each past life, felt repetitive at times. While they offered insight into the relationships, the slight variations from the exes' perspectives weren't always enough to justify revisiting the same events. The author could've done more to develop the falling action, especially since all the suspense throughout the story actually leads to a really good twist.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Don't read further if you don't want to know more about the ending!
Several readers were disappointed by the abrupt ending and the limited screen time between the main couple. And where are the others? What the hell happened to them? They just... disappeared. I can't help but agree that more development and resolution for secondary characters, like Ye Siluo, would have been welcome.
Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, My Exes Are Everywhere is a fun read. The premise is unique, the characters are engaging, and the overall plot is surprisingly intricate. It's not perfect, but it offers a unique take on the transmigration genre. If you're looking for a lighthearted, slightly brain-rotting novel with multiple love interests and a dash of humor, this might just be your cup of tea. I'd say it's worth a read, just be prepared for a few bumps along the way.
