My Thoughts on Kajiya de Hajimeru Isekai Slow Life

This web novel is definitely... a choice. If you're looking for a lightning-paced plot, gripping romance, or even remotely accurate blacksmithing, you might want to steer clear. However, if you're seeking a truly slow-life isekai where the most exciting thing that happens all week is the protagonist building a new bed, then pull up a chair.

First Impressions

Initially, I was intrigued by the premise. A blacksmith in another world, using his modern knowledge (and some cheat skills) to make a living? Sounds cozy! But it quickly became apparent that "slow life" is the operative phrase here. The story unfolds at a glacial pace, and whole chapters can be dedicated to the most mundane tasks.

What Works Well

For some, this is the novel's charm. It's a genuinely chill experience, a far cry from the power fantasies and constant action that dominate the isekai genre. There's a certain appeal to watching the protagonist diligently ply his trade, and the expanding "family" of female characters, while not deeply developed, do add a touch of warmth to the story. I appreciated that there was little to no casual sexism or racism. The translation quality is generally good, which makes the experience more pleasant.

Areas of Concern

Okay, let's address the elephant in the room: the blacksmithing. Numerous readers, especially those with any actual knowledge of the craft, have pointed out the glaring inaccuracies. Apparently, our protagonist is forging cast iron swords, which is... problematic. The author's attempts to explain the process without magic often fall flat, and the "cheat" explanations can feel repetitive and uninspired.

Then there's the harem. While some enjoy the growing cast of female characters, others find it forced and detrimental to the plot. The protagonist's obliviousness to their affections, combined with a lack of romantic progression, can be frustrating. Some find the characters to be bland and uninteresting. Furthermore, some events seem contrived solely to add more women to the harem, often at the expense of the protagonist's character and common sense.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning

Some readers have noted that the protagonist gets dragged into situations that are unsuited to his talents, such as spy missions. This is usually to add a woman to the harem.

Final Verdict

Kajiya de Hajimeru Isekai Slow Life is a very niche novel. If you're looking for a story where literally nothing happens, where the protagonist lives a simple, uneventful life with a growing harem of adoring women, and where blacksmithing accuracy is not a priority, then you might find something to enjoy here. However, if you crave plot progression, romance, or even a basic understanding of metallurgy, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. For me, it's a 3/5.
