My Thoughts on Junior Brother Always Wants to Bend Me
"Junior Brother Always Wants to Bend Me" is a novel that certainly piqued my interest with its unique premise. Diving in, I found myself surprisingly captivated by this xianxia romance, despite my initial reservations about the self-cest aspect.
First Impressions
The initial concept was definitely a hurdle. The idea of a romance between what is essentially the same soul inhabiting different bodies felt… odd. However, the story quickly won me over. The world-building is adequate, not overly complex, but sufficient to support the narrative, allowing the characters and their relationships to take center stage.
What Works Well
What truly shines in this novel is the character development. The MC is portrayed as calm, intelligent, and caring, while the ML is cute, diligent, and utterly devoted. The way their relationship unfolds feels organic and believable, even with the unusual circumstances. The author does a great job of differentiating the two characters, making it feel less like self-cest and more like two distinct individuals finding love. The villains, thankfully, aren't just cardboard cutouts. They have motivations, making them more compelling and their actions more impactful. The pacing is also well-managed. The story moves quickly, but it never feels rushed, and the occasional angst adds a welcome layer of depth. The romance is sweet, with a gradual build-up of possessiveness from the MC that I found quite endearing.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the novel overall, there were a few areas that could have been stronger. Some plot lines felt a bit underdeveloped, leaving me wanting more. Certain character motivations, particularly those of the villains, felt a little rushed and not entirely convincing. A bit more fleshing out in these areas would have elevated the story even further.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers might find the ending a bit too convenient. The final resolution of the main villain's arc, while satisfying, felt somewhat abrupt. The second couple receives little attention which may disappoint some readers.
Final Verdict
Despite some minor shortcomings, "Junior Brother Always Wants to Bend Me" is a delightful and engaging read. The unique premise, well-developed characters, and sweet romance make it a worthwhile experience. If you're looking for a relatively short, easy-to-read xianxia novel with a unique twist, I highly recommend giving this one a try. I'm giving it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
