My Thoughts on I’m Really Just an Ordinary Person
I’m Really Just an Ordinary Person certainly took me for a ride. With its blend of action, fantasy, mystery, and even a touch of romance, I was eager to dive in. And while it has some quirks, I ultimately found it a compelling read.
First Impressions
The premise is intriguing: instead of the protagonist being transported to another world, the other world comes to him. Our "ordinary" MC, Shen Si, finds himself at the center of supernatural events as game fields merge with reality and survivors with special abilities return. This immediately sets it apart from typical infinite flow stories. However, I can see how some might find the initial chapters a bit slow, as the story takes its time to set the stage.
What Works Well
Many readers praised the unique plot and the way the author weaves together seemingly disparate arcs into a cohesive whole. The concept of "Returnees" and the conflicts arising from their integration into society is well-executed. I particularly enjoyed the focus on time manipulation, which adds a layer of complexity and intrigue. The MC and ML relationship is also unlike anything I've read, a truly unique dynamic that feels real.
The story shines in its exploration of themes like sacrifice, endurance, and the burden of responsibility. Shen Si's character, while initially appearing indifferent, is gradually revealed to be complex and deeply affected by his experiences. The side characters are also well-developed, adding depth to the world and providing a sense of realism.
Areas of Concern
While I appreciate the plot-driven nature of the story, I can understand why some readers felt the romance was lacking. The focus is primarily on the action and mystery, with the romantic subplot taking a backseat. I personally would have loved to see a bit more development in this area. Some readers also found the MC's initial indifference off-putting, although this is later explained by his backstory. And while the ending is satisfying in many ways, it could have been a bit longer.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers found the time travel aspect somewhat illogical, particularly the lack of significant consequences despite multiple resets.
Final Verdict
Despite its minor flaws, I’m Really Just an Ordinary Person is a well-written and thought-provoking novel. If you enjoy stories with intricate plots, complex characters, and a unique take on the infinite flow genre, I highly recommend giving it a try. Just be prepared for a more serious and dramatic tone than the initial description might suggest.
