My Thoughts on Falling Together
"Falling Together" is a complex and steamy yaoi novel that definitely left an impression. With its blend of drama, mature themes, and explicit content, it's a story that explores the blurred lines between familial obligation and romantic obsession. It's not always an easy read, but I found myself drawn into the intricate relationship between the two leads.
First Impressions
Initially, I was intrigued by the premise of "non-biological brothers" falling in love. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, and I definitely wasn't prepared for the level of sensuality. The story dives right into the complex dynamic between Ning Zhiyuan and Cen Zhisen, two men who thought they were brothers for 27 years.
What Works Well
What I appreciated most was the author's attention to detail. The writing style is immersive, and the characters are well-developed. I found the exploration of their past grievances and misunderstandings compelling. The evolution of their relationship felt natural, even with the initial pseudo-incestuous dynamic. I also loved the fact that there wasn't any heavy drama regarding the "switch at birth" trope. Instead, the author chose to focus on the main couple and their growth. I also liked that the family of MC's biological son was potrayed positively. The sexual tension is palpable throughout, and when the relationship finally turns romantic, the explicit scenes are very well written.
Areas of Concern
I did struggle at times with the character of Cen Zhisen. While some found him to be a compelling love interest, I had a hard time reconciling his past indifference toward Ning Zhiyuan with his later affections. Some readers might find the initial brotherly dynamic off-putting.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Several plot points could be considered spoilers:
- The fact that MC and ML had past relationships.
- MC's resentment towards ML because of the bullying he suffered due to his mother's death.
- The true reason why ML did the paternity test.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Falling Together" is a worthwhile read if you're looking for a mature and complex romance with a fair amount of steam. It's not a light and fluffy story, but it offers a nuanced exploration of love, obsession, and the lasting impact of childhood experiences. I give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
