My Thoughts on Complete Martial Arts Attributes
"Complete Martial Arts Attributes" is a web novel that I found to be a fairly enjoyable popcorn read, though it's not without its flaws. It's the kind of story you can dive into when you want to turn your brain off and enjoy some wish-fulfillment with a side of comedy.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the unique power-up system where the MC gains attributes by... well, let's just say he's not afraid to use a brick. The concept is ridiculous, but it's also strangely entertaining. The early chapters had a certain charm, and the MC's shamelessness was genuinely funny.
What Works Well
The cultivation system is definitely a highlight. It's fun to see what new attributes Wang Teng will acquire and how he'll use them. The MC, despite his flaws, is likeable enough, especially if you enjoy an overpowered protagonist who isn't afraid to be a bit of a rogue. The author's strength lies in creating a world that's interesting enough to hold my attention, even if the plot itself isn't groundbreaking. The action scenes, when they're not bogged down by excessive commentary, can be quite engaging. The comedy hits more often than it misses, providing a good balance to the more serious elements of the story. Also, I appreciated the fact that the story eventually moves beyond Earth, opening up a wider universe to explore.
Areas of Concern
However, the novel does stumble in several areas. The pacing can be inconsistent, with some arcs dragging on far longer than necessary. The side characters often feel one-dimensional, existing primarily to react to the MC's awesomeness. The love interest, Lin Chuhan, unfortunately feels underdeveloped and doesn't get enough screen time to become truly compelling. I also noticed a tendency for the MC to act rashly, making decisions that lead to unnecessary drama.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers might be put off by a particular arc involving slavery later in the story. Also, the MC suddenly deciding to start a club in his school and pouring resources into it felt random and unjustified.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Complete Martial Arts Attributes" is a decent time-waster if you're looking for a lighthearted, overpowered MC story with plenty of action and comedy. Just don't expect deep character development or a tightly woven plot. I'd give it a solid 3 out of 5 stars. It's entertaining enough to keep you hooked, but it's not a novel that will leave a lasting impression.
