My Thoughts on After Winning This Battle, I Will Go Home And Get Married
This novel promised a blend of comedy, mecha action, romance, and slice-of-life in a futuristic setting, and after diving in, I can confidently say it delivers a unique experience. It's a story about finding love and peace after war, but with a protagonist who experiences the world, and love, in a very different way.
First Impressions
Initially, I was intrigued by the premise of a cold, emotionally-stunted soldier finding love after the war. The tags like "dense protagonist" and "devoted love interest" painted a picture of a potentially hilarious and heartwarming dynamic. I was also curious about the ABO setting, especially after reading that it handles the tropes in a refreshing way.
What Works Well
The dynamic between the MC, Yan Xueshan, and the ML, Arthur, is definitely the heart of this story. Yan Xueshan's emotional detachment, stemming from a childhood accident, makes for some unintentionally funny moments and a unique perspective on relationships. Arthur, in contrast, is a sunshine-personified golden retriever who is utterly devoted to Yan Xueshan. Their interactions are sweet and often hilarious, and I appreciated how Arthur patiently woos Yan Xueshan, respecting his boundaries and quirks.
I also appreciated the world-building, particularly the progressive take on the ABO genre. It was refreshing to see a story where Alphas, Betas, and Omegas are treated as equals, and pheromones don't dictate relationships. The focus on personal responsibility and genuine connection felt like a welcome change from typical ABO narratives.
Many readers praised the plot for avoiding unnecessary drama and focusing on the characters' growth and relationship. The story is relatively short and sweet, making it a quick and enjoyable read.
Areas of Concern
While I generally enjoyed the novel, I can see why some readers felt disconnected. The author's writing style can be a bit detached, sometimes skipping over important details or events. This can leave the reader wondering how certain developments came about. I can also see how some might find the MC's emotional inconsistencies frustrating at times.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers have pointed out potential plot holes or inconsistencies, such as the MC's sudden promotion to admiral or conflicting information about the couple's ability to have children. Some also felt that the public wedding didn't quite fit the MC's character.
Final Verdict
Overall, "After Winning This Battle, I Will Go Home And Get Married" is a heartwarming and unique read that I would recommend. It's a story about love, acceptance, and finding happiness after trauma, with a refreshing take on the ABO genre. While it may have some minor flaws, the engaging characters and sweet romance make it a worthwhile experience.
