Who it's for, and whether it holds up.
"Yesterday" does not try to be a comfortable read. The male lead is cruel, possessive, and does things the story doesn't fully explain away. If you go in expecting a dark romance where the darkness eventually resolves into something redemptive, you may find the ending satisfying. If you go in expecting the darkness to be handled with care throughout, you'll have more reservations.
What works: the plot twists are genuinely good. The web of deception keeps the story moving in ways that less ambitious dark romances don't manage, and the main character is not passive, which matters when the power imbalance is this extreme. She pushes back, she survives, and her agency makes the story more readable than it would otherwise be.
The ML's characterization is the persistent weak point. He's disturbing in ways the story seems aware of, but the lack of real development for him means his behavior carries weight without much psychological grounding. He does things and the story moves on. Some readers will find that honest; others will find it frustrating.
The story does include a gang assault and the ML's involvement in it. This is a turning point that reshapes the MC and the overall tone, and it's worth knowing exists before deciding whether to continue. It is not handled gently.
At 3.8 this is a decent entry in the dark psychological romance genre, uneven but not without real moments of craft. The premise is executed with enough momentum to carry it through the rougher stretches. Know what you're signing up for.
