My Thoughts on Vicious Male Counterpart Isn’t Competing Anymore
"Vicious Male Counterpart Isn’t Competing Anymore" is a novel that really pulled me in with its premise. The idea of a reborn character choosing a different path after being unfairly treated in his past life is definitely appealing. While it has some familiar tropes, the execution kept me engaged, and I found myself rooting for the main character, Yan Hao (YH).
First Impressions
The initial chapters set up the story well, showing YH's past struggles and his decision to forge a new future in mecha engineering. I immediately connected with his desire to escape the shadow of his brother and find his own worth. The contrast between his past life and his present choices created a strong sense of anticipation. However, I will admit that some of his initial naivete and trust, even after his experiences, did raise an eyebrow.
What Works Well
One of the strongest aspects of this novel is YH's character development. He starts as someone with low self-esteem and a warped view of relationships, but gradually learns to trust and accept affection. The supporting characters, especially his best friend He Shao and his love interest Sheng Heng (SH), play a crucial role in his growth. I appreciated how SH wasn't the typical cold male lead; his genuine care and support for YH felt refreshing. The slow-burn romance was also a highlight, as I enjoyed watching their relationship evolve from friendship to love. The blend of school life, mecha battles, and interstellar elements created a dynamic and engaging world.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, I did find some areas that could have been improved. The pacing felt rushed towards the end, and I wished for more closure with certain plotlines, such as the resolution of the war and the fate of YH's family. I also felt that the original protagonist, YH's brother, was somewhat sidelined after a certain point, which left me wanting more resolution.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers may find certain plot points predictable, particularly the MC's overpowered abilities in mecha engineering. Also, the ending does leave some questions unanswered, such as the fate of the original protagonist and the resolution of certain political conflicts.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Vicious Male Counterpart Isn’t Competing Anymore" is an enjoyable and heartwarming read. Despite some minor flaws, the strong character development, engaging plot, and sweet romance make it a worthwhile experience. If you're looking for a story about self-discovery, found family, and a genius protagonist finding his place in the world, I recommend giving this novel a try.
