My Thoughts on To Burn On Touch
"To Burn On Touch" is a completed danmei novel that many readers seem to adore, and after diving in, I can definitely see why. It's a coming-of-age story focused on high school life, friendship, and first love, all wrapped up with a healthy dose of comedy. While it's not without its minor flaws, the overall experience is heartwarming and enjoyable.
First Impressions
Initially, I was a little unsure about the main character, Yu Ran. He's described as a chuunibyou, and I can see how some readers might find his antics a bit much at first. He's carefree, sometimes to a fault, and definitely marches to the beat of his own drum. However, I quickly grew to appreciate his unique perspective and genuine kindness.
What Works Well
The strength of this novel lies in its characters. Yu Ran and Chu Mian, the main couple, are incredibly sweet together. Chu Mian's struggle with narcolepsy adds a layer of depth to the story, and I liked how the author handled it. The romance is cute and develops at a satisfying pace. There's a real sense of watching these characters grow and mature throughout the story. I also appreciated the focus on the friend group; they felt like real, supportive friends, which isn't always the case in web novels. The comedy is also a major highlight, Yu Ran's antics had me laughing out loud on multiple occasions. It's just the right amount of fluffy and lighthearted, perfect for when you need a feel-good read.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed "To Burn On Touch," there were a few minor things that held it back from being a perfect read for me. Some readers found the later parts of the story a bit draggy, and I can see that. As a slice-of-life novel, it is slow-paced, and I can understand how it might feel tedious at times. Also, the ending felt a little unresolved, and some of the side characters didn't get as much development as I would have liked.
Final Verdict
Despite these minor issues, I would still recommend "To Burn On Touch." It's a sweet, funny, and heartwarming story about growing up and finding love. If you're looking for a lighthearted and enjoyable read with well-developed characters and a healthy dose of comedy, then this novel is definitely worth checking out.
