Who it's for, and whether it holds up.
My Thoughts on Thriller Hunting Program
Thriller Hunting Program certainly throws you into the deep end of a chaotic world, and after diving in, I’ve got some thoughts. This novel is a rollercoaster of action, comedy, and supernatural elements, and while it excels in some areas, it stumbles in others.
First Impressions
My first impression was one of sheer excitement. The premise is intriguing: a team of individuals, including a disabled but overpowered female lead, hunting… well, thrillers. The initial chapters promised a blend of intense action sequences and lighthearted humor, and I was eager to see where the story would go.
What Works Well
The novel’s strength lies in its ensemble cast. The interactions between the characters, particularly Wu Shijiu and Chang Su, are genuinely funny and endearing. The author does a good job of giving each team member their moment to shine, preventing the story from solely revolving around the protagonist. I also appreciated the episodic nature of the missions, which kept the plot moving at a brisk pace. The mix of horror and comedy is well-balanced, creating a reading experience that's both thrilling and entertaining. The romantic subplots among the supporting characters were a delightful addition, adding an extra layer of sweetness to the overall narrative.
Areas of Concern
However, I can see how some readers might find the constant fighting repetitive. While the action is initially exciting, it can become monotonous if not punctuated by significant plot progression or character development. I also felt that the romance between Qin Ce and Chengcheng could have been more developed; it felt somewhat lacking compared to the other relationships in the story.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Okay, let's talk spoilers for a second. I found the fake father-daughter relationship reveal to be a clever twist, adding a layer of intrigue to the story. And the Japanese character's method of dealing with ghosts through dance? Absolutely hilarious! However, I do feel a bit sorry for Xu Xiao, who seems destined to be surrounded by couples for the foreseeable future.
Final Verdict
Overall, I found "Thriller Hunting Program" to be an enjoyable, albeit flawed, read. Its strengths lie in its engaging characters, humorous writing, and exciting action sequences. While the plot progression could be improved and certain romantic relationships could be fleshed out more, the novel offers a unique blend of genres that is sure to entertain readers looking for something a little different. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.
