Who it's for, and whether it holds up.
The setup is pure genre nonsense in the best way: an older, talentless transmigrated MC ends up in a dual cultivation arrangement with a powerful young Demon Venerable after a classic "forced circumstances" opening. It's played for comedy and mostly earns it.
The He Huan Sect is the novel's comic heart. Their cultivation philosophy, their particular skill set, and their general chaotic energy make every scene involving them entertaining. The side characters have real personality, which matters more than usual since a large chunk of the story is the MC trying to avoid or delay his romantic feelings while the ML courts him with increasing sincerity.
That's where the pacing gets tricky. The "wife-chasing" arc, where the ML pursues the MC after the MC realizes and then suppresses his own feelings, runs longer than it needs to. The misunderstandings that keep the couple apart feel contrived after a while, and the MC's stubbornness tips from understandable caution into manufactured obstacle. The ML starts off immature and rough around the edges, which won't work for every reader, even if he softens considerably as the story develops.
The romance does get there. The ML's eventual devotion is earnest rather than performative, and the payoff is warm rather than just declaratory. If slow-burn xianxia romance with genuine humor and a chaotic supporting cast sounds appealing, this delivers on that premise.
At 4.5, it's toward the top of its specific subgenre. The flaws are mostly pacing-related rather than character or concept failures. Worth it if you're patient with the chase.
