My Thoughts on Reincarnated as the Son of a Vicious Lord! ~When I Was Having Fun Learning Magic, I Had to Get Rid of My Stigma~!
First Impressions
Okay, so I jumped into "Reincarnated as the Son of a Vicious Lord!" with a bit of excitement. The title promises magic, stigma-busting, and a fresh start. I’m always a sucker for the "awful person gets a second chance" trope, and I was hoping for a protagonist who’d really grapple with his past and forge a new path. Unfortunately, my experience was a mixed bag.
What Works Well
There are glimpses of a solid foundation here. Some readers found the flow clear and appreciated the character development, finding it realistic. The idea of a protagonist conflicted about magic and death, and reacting in an understandable way, is definitely appealing. I can see how the author’s writing style might resonate with fans of certain authors who enjoy detailed explanations of magic and battle tactics. I definitely think the initial premise of someone trying to overcome a bad reputation is very appealing and has a lot of potential.
Areas of Concern
However, the execution seems to be where things fall apart for me. The biggest issue is the protagonist himself. I found it hard to connect with a character who, despite being reincarnated, doesn't seem to utilize his past life experiences or memories in any meaningful way. Several readers felt the MC was bland, indecisive, and lacked ambition. The plot felt disjointed and uninspired. It felt like I was watching a series of events unfold with little to no connection between them, without any real sense of progression or stakes. The magic system, while present, felt underdeveloped and uninspired. I was hoping for more creativity and depth. I felt like I was just going through the motions. It's not awful, but it's also not particularly exciting.
Final Verdict
Ultimately, "Reincarnated as the Son of a Vicious Lord!" didn’t quite hit the mark for me. While it has moments of promise and a few readers found it enjoyable, the lackluster plot, underdeveloped characters, and general lack of excitement made it a difficult read. It might appeal to very young readers or those looking for a simple, nostalgic experience, but I'd suggest exploring other isekai novels before diving into this one.
