My Thoughts on Rebirth of the Wolfish Silkpants Bottom
"Rebirth of the Wolfish Silkpants Bottom" is quite the ride. This story definitely has some strong points that kept me engaged, but also some aspects that made me raise an eyebrow. As a whole, I'm rather conflicted with how I feel about this story.
First Impressions
The premise is definitely intriguing: a reborn protagonist seeking revenge. The initial chapters hooked me with the promise of clever schemes and a satisfying turnaround for the MC. The concept of Shu Ning, armed with the knowledge of his past life, setting out to right the wrongs done to him and his loved ones felt compelling.
What Works Well
I found the core of the story, the dynamic between Shu Ning and Shu Heng, to be the most compelling aspect. Many readers seem to agree, praising the fluffy and sweet moments between the two, especially as their relationship develops. The "wolf in sheep's clothing" aspect of Shu Ning's character also adds an interesting layer. He's not just a passive victim; he's actively shaping his destiny and taking down those who wronged him. I also liked how the author does a good job writing the ML.
Areas of Concern
However, I can't ignore some of the more problematic elements that several readers pointed out. The age gap between the main characters, particularly the ML's attraction to the MC while he's still in a young body, can be quite uncomfortable. This is especially true when the ML starts to make romantic advances. The constant downplaying of the MC's feelings of discomfort is also something that I found a bit off-putting. It's a shame because it detracts from the overall enjoyment. Additionally, the handling of female characters felt uneven. The tendency for female characters to be portrayed as villains, with very few exceptions, felt like a recurring trope that detracted from the story's overall appeal.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers have mentioned specific plot points that might be considered spoilers. If you're sensitive to spoilers, you may want to skip this section.
A particular point of contention seems to be the MC's treatment of his younger brother. While his past life experiences understandably color his perception, the level of animosity towards a newborn felt excessive to me. The forced prostitution of Wang Cong was also a point of contention for some readers, as it felt disproportionate to his actions in the new timeline.
Final Verdict
"Rebirth of the Wolfish Silkpants Bottom" is a mixed bag. There are moments of genuine sweetness, clever plotting, and satisfying revenge. However, the problematic elements, such as the age gap, questionable consent, and uneven portrayal of female characters, prevent me from fully embracing the story. It's a novel with potential, but one that requires a certain level of tolerance for potentially uncomfortable themes. Ultimately, whether or not you'll enjoy it will depend on your personal preferences and triggers.
