My Thoughts on Puppet Notes (Wearing Book)
I went into "Puppet Notes (Wearing Book)" expecting a unique blend of genres, and I wasn't disappointed. This novel dives headfirst into a world of automatons, complex relationships, and a surprisingly heartwarming core. While it might not be perfect, its strengths definitely outweigh its weaknesses, making it a memorable read.
First Impressions
I was immediately drawn in by the premise of a protagonist who transmigrates into the body of a puppet maker's son. The idea of living dolls with distinct personalities is compelling, and the initial chapters do a great job of setting up the world and introducing the key players. The early focus on childcare and the MC's gentle nature creates a cozy atmosphere that contrasts nicely with the underlying darker elements.
What Works Well
The novel's strongest point is undoubtedly its characters. The MC's interactions with his puppet "children" are genuinely heartwarming, and I loved seeing their individual personalities develop. The author does a fantastic job of making these dolls feel like real, complex beings with their own desires and quirks. The male lead, a villainous type who's surprisingly soft on the MC, is also a highlight. I found their dynamic to be both intriguing and sweet, and I appreciated the gradual development of their relationship. Many will enjoy the fact that the MC is the seme or top in the relationship, which is somewhat rare.
Areas of Concern
I did find some aspects of the plot to be a little less engaging, particularly towards the end. The focus on politics felt somewhat out of character for the MC and detracted from the more personal relationships that I enjoyed so much. Also, while the novel is labeled as horror, I didn't find it particularly scary. It leans more towards a dark fantasy with some unsettling elements.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers have pointed out inconsistencies in the story, such as the fluctuating importance of puppet abilities and the question of how many people know the ML's true identity. Also, the MC gets involved in politics which in turn causes some of the problems in the story.
Final Verdict
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed "Puppet Notes (Wearing Book)." Its unique premise, well-developed characters, and heartwarming family dynamics make it a worthwhile read, even if it stumbles a bit in its later stages. If you're looking for a novel that blends fantasy, romance, and a touch of darkness with a strong emphasis on found family, I highly recommend giving this one a try.
