My Thoughts on My Princess Has Been Reborn

"My Princess Has Been Reborn" promised a sweet yuri romance set against the backdrop of ancient China, and for the most part, it delivered. It's a story about second chances, unwavering love, and navigating political intrigue. I found myself drawn to the central relationship between Lu Qipei and Princess Qi Yang, and the concept of their reincarnation added an intriguing layer to the narrative.

First Impressions

The initial chapters hooked me with the promise of a "love interest falls in love first" dynamic. Princess Qi Yang's boldness and early character development were definite highlights. The beginning felt like a relaxing escape, a welcome change from heavier, more angsty stories. I was eager to see how their relationship would unfold and how they would use their second chance to create a better future.

What Works Well

The core strength of this novel lies in its romantic elements. The devotion between Lu Qipei and Qi Yang is palpable. Many readers, including myself, found their interactions genuinely sweet and heartwarming. The novel excels in creating a fluffy, low-angst environment where the couple's bond is the central focus. I also appreciated the political subplots, which, while not overly complex, added depth to the world and provided a backdrop for the characters' growth. The pacing felt generally good, allowing me to become invested in the characters and their journey.

Areas of Concern

While I enjoyed the overall experience, I did find some aspects a bit frustrating. Lu Qipei's naivete, particularly in the early chapters, was a point of contention for me and other readers. Her decision to return to her family home, despite the dangers, felt somewhat contrived and tested my patience. Also, the parents are not great at parenting. While understandable given their focus on each other, it did detract from the overall story for me.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning

Several readers expressed frustration with Lu Qipei's choices regarding her brother, who was responsible for her death in her previous life. Her repeated returns to the Lu mansion, even after facing betrayal and danger, were seen as illogical and detrimental to her character. Some felt this undermined her intelligence and made it difficult to root for her.

Final Verdict

Despite some frustrating character choices, "My Princess Has Been Reborn" is a worthwhile read for those seeking a sweet and fluffy yuri romance with a touch of political intrigue. The strong focus on the central relationship, combined with the intriguing reincarnation premise, makes it an enjoyable escape. Just be prepared to exercise some patience with the protagonist's early decisions, as her character does eventually develop. Overall, I'd recommend this novel to readers who prioritize romance and are willing to overlook some minor plot inconsistencies.

Synopsis

Lu Qipei has died at the hands of the person she trusted most. However, what she regretted most before she died was that she had appeared before Princess Qi Yang and had an out-of-norm (lesbian) marriage with her. After dying, she would still be pulling Princess Qi Yang into a quagmire. Thus, after being reborn, Lu Qipei decided to break free of her shackles and abandon everything. She did not want to appear in front of Princess Qi Yang again. Yet, Princess Qi Yang had been reborn as well and even managed to successfully capture this wild, escaped prince consort on the first day of being reborn… Qi Yang (smiling): You still want to run? Servants, come and bring this prince consort back! Lu Qipei (tightly covering her clothes): No no no, who are you? You’re not that cute and innocent little princess of mine!
