My Thoughts on Interstellar Greening Master

"Interstellar Greening Master" promised a delightful blend of sci-fi, cultivation, and slice-of-life fluff, and for a while, it delivered. I was drawn in by the unique premise of a dormouse MC navigating an apocalyptic interstellar setting. However, my experience, like many others, became a bit of a rollercoaster.

First Impressions

The initial chapters were undeniably charming. The MC, Shui Shuishui, is ridiculously cute, and his dormouse perspective on survival and "raising" his human companions is genuinely funny. I immediately fell for the lighthearted tone and the focus on building a community in a desolate world. The slow-burn romance with the ML, Gu Langu, also started off promising, with the dynamic of them each believing the other is their pet.

What Works Well

The world-building, at least initially, is quite robust. I appreciated the descriptions of the MC's original cultivation world and the harsh realities of the planet he finds himself on. Many readers praised the strong start, the unique character interactions, and the generally warm and fluffy atmosphere. I also found the side characters to be vivid and engaging, making the story more than just a romance. The MC's proactiveness and resourcefulness in the face of adversity also made him a compelling protagonist.

Areas of Concern

Unfortunately, the plot takes a sharp turn around chapter 40 or so. I, like several other readers, found the introduction of dungeons, simulators, and increasingly complex cultivation elements overwhelming. The story starts to feel like it's throwing every trope imaginable into the mix, resulting in a convoluted and confusing narrative. I felt like the core appeal of the story – the cute dormouse surviving in a harsh world – got somewhat lost in the shuffle. The ending, according to some, feels abrupt and leaves several questions unanswered.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning

Several reviewers mentioned major plot points that could spoil your reading experience. These include the introduction of dungeons, simulators, past lives, and a larger conflict involving higher-dimensional beings. Some also noted that the ML's personality becomes somewhat stereotypical and overbearing once the romance solidifies.

Final Verdict

"Interstellar Greening Master" has moments of brilliance, particularly in its early chapters. If you're looking for a lighthearted and fluffy read with a unique premise, it might be worth checking out. However, be prepared for a significant shift in tone and plot complexity as the story progresses. While I enjoyed parts of the journey, the convoluted plot and overwhelming number of tropes ultimately detracted from my overall enjoyment. I'd recommend going in with tempered expectations.

Synopsis

Dormouse, a petite and shy mammal, spends 3/4 of its life in sleep, and often starves to death because of lethargy and forgetting to eat. The shy Dormouse wakes up and finds that he has entered a prison, or a deserted planet, a kind of planet that has undergone interstellar wars and has harsh living conditions and abandoned planets. A large number of prisoners of war and fugitives are exiled in it. This is a place of exile that people can’t avoid. , is also a barren land, and it is also a dark land. Shu Shuishui carefully said to the claw: “Excuse me? Is there a place to sleep? I will exchange one, no, two hazelnuts for you!” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gu Langu recently raised a pet mouse. The pet mouse is not sticky, but it is a bit sticky. Shu Shuishui (*^-^*): “It’s a pity that such a beautiful hand doesn’t belong to me. Excuse me…can you rent this hand to me? I…I’ll pay for three hazelnuts!”
