My Thoughts on Husband, Let Me Touch Your Abs
"Husband, Let Me Touch Your Abs" promised a slice-of-life, rags-to-riches story in ancient times, and for the most part, it delivered a heartwarming and addictive experience. While not flawless, its focus on family, business, and the realities of a transmigrated protagonist's journey made it a compelling read.
First Impressions
Right off the bat, I was drawn in by the premise. A modern individual transmigrating to a rural, ancient setting to build a food business empire? Yes, please! What immediately grabbed me was the grounded nature of both the MC and ML. They weren't secretly rich or blessed with hidden powers, just a clever mind and a strong back. The early romance was sweet, and the prospect of watching their family grow was incredibly appealing.
What Works Well
The strength of this novel lies in its characters and world-building. The MC, Lu Yao, is a relatable protagonist who uses his modern knowledge to improve his family's life, but he's not unrealistically overpowered. He faces setbacks and makes mistakes, which only makes his eventual success more satisfying. The ML, while initially taking a backseat, is a supportive and loving partner, a steady presence in Lu Yao's life.
I especially appreciated the focus on familial love. The interactions between the characters felt genuine, and I found myself invested in the lives of not just the main couple, but also their siblings, parents, and even some of the villagers. Unlike many similar novels, the drama stays outside the immediate family, fostering a sense of warmth and support that was genuinely touching. The business aspect was also well-handled, with the MC's food-related ventures providing a solid foundation for the plot.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the novel overall, there were a few issues that detracted from my enjoyment. The translation could be inconsistent at times, with pronouns occasionally being mixed up, which could be distracting. Also, the pacing felt uneven, with some sections feeling rushed and others dragging on. The MC's food knowledge, while explained, felt a bit too convenient.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers may find the death of a character to be a negative point, but I think it added a touch of realism to the story. Even with a transmigrated protagonist, life in ancient times is still unpredictable and can be harsh.
Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "Husband, Let Me Touch Your Abs" is a worthwhile read for anyone who enjoys slice-of-life, farming, or business-oriented novels with a healthy dose of romance. The well-developed characters, heartwarming family dynamics, and realistic portrayal of ancient life make it a standout in the genre. I'd recommend giving it a try, just be prepared to overlook a few translation hiccups along the way.
