My Thoughts on Forcefully Doting On You
"Forcefully Doting On You" is quite the ride, and my feelings about it are definitely mixed. It's a novel that knows exactly what it is and doesn't shy away, which is commendable, but that doesn't necessarily make it a masterpiece. It has gathered a lot of attention, and it is easy to see why.
First Impressions
Going in, I was prepared for a fluffy, lighthearted read, and that's largely what I got. The premise is simple: a protagonist who, through various circumstances, becomes the object of everyone's affection. The story is full of fluff and romance. It has a charming protagonist and devoted love interests. It is an original complete, translation ongoing novel.
What Works Well
The biggest draw of this novel is its sheer, unadulterated sweetness. If you're looking for a story to soothe your mind and escape from angst, this might just be the ticket. The translation is really well done. It's a story that doesn't take itself too seriously, offering a world where the MC is constantly misunderstood in the most adorable way. I also found the Male Lead's puppy-like devotion to the protagonist quite endearing.
Areas of Concern
However, the novel does have its drawbacks. The most glaring issue is the "Gary Sue" nature of the main character. It can be hard to swallow how quickly and easily everyone falls in love with the MC, often without much apparent reason beyond his physical attractiveness. This lack of depth in character development can make the story feel shallow and the characters bland. Some of the scenarios and character developments feel illogical. The plot can feel boring. The constant doting can get repetitive and even a bit nauseating. The harem that no one expected is also an issue. Some readers may find the Male Lead despicable.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers have pointed out that the Male Lead initially allows the MC to be bullied before suddenly becoming protective, which raises some red flags. Also, the MC's supposed acting genius clashes with his inability to perceive the obvious affection of those around him, creating a plot hole.
Final Verdict
"Forcefully Doting On You" is a novel that's best enjoyed with your brain switched off. If you're willing to embrace the silliness and accept the Mary Sue-ish elements, you might find it to be a delightful, stress-free read. However, if you're looking for depth, complex characters, and a logical plot, you'll likely be disappointed. I'd recommend it with reservations, knowing that it's definitely not for everyone.
