My Thoughts on Fool, Grandpa Can Transform!
"Fool, Grandpa Can Transform!" is quite the rollercoaster of a novel. It throws you headfirst into an apocalyptic world with a unique twist: a protagonist who can transform into animals! The premise is undeniably fun, and the comedic potential is definitely exploited.
First Impressions
Initially, I was hooked. The blend of action, comedy, and supernatural elements is well-executed, and I found myself chuckling at the chaotic situations the MC gets into. The world-building is also quite impressive, with each doomsday scenario feeling distinct and well-developed. It's the kind of story that grabs your attention and makes you want to see what crazy animal form the MC will take next.
What Works Well
The animal transformations are undoubtedly a highlight. The author does a great job of imbuing each animal form with unique characteristics and powers, leading to some truly creative and hilarious moments. The supporting characters, including the ML, are also generally well-written and enjoyable to read. I particularly enjoyed the banter between the MC and ML, which is entertaining to read. The action sequences are exciting, and the emotional moments, while not always the focus, hit surprisingly hard. The author is able to raise the tension in the next world and top the previous world. Each world was terrifying, horrific, sometimes eerie and made you feel helpless, but the people and animals that never gave up showed the beauty of hope.
Areas of Concern
While the novel has a lot going for it, I can't ignore some of the criticisms I've seen. One recurring concern is the portrayal of other countries. Some found the nationalism and racism in the later half of the story to be a bit much.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers felt that the ending took a turn, with certain countries being depicted negatively while the MC's homeland was consistently praised.
Final Verdict
"Fool, Grandpa Can Transform!" is a fun and engaging read with a unique premise and entertaining characters. However, potential readers should be aware of the nationalism and racism that some have pointed out, especially in the later arcs. If you're looking for a lighthearted apocalypse story with plenty of action and comedy, this might be right up your alley. Just be prepared to take some of the later plot developments with a grain of salt. I'd recommend giving it a try, but don't hesitate to drop it if the later themes become too uncomfortable.
