My Thoughts on Bu Sha

"Bu Sha" is quite the ride, a novel that throws a little bit of everything into the mix – action, adventure, comedy, fantasy, and even a dash of mecha. After diving in, I can definitely see why it has a dedicated following, and also why some readers might find it a bit… uneven.

First Impressions

Initially, I was drawn in by the premise of an assassin who vows never to kill again. The blend of seriousness and humor intrigued me, and the early volumes were entertaining. The main character, Liola, is a compelling mix of cool competence and surprising naivete, which definitely makes him likeable, especially if you're looking for something different from the usual protagonist.

What Works Well

The world-building is a definite highlight. The way the author weaves together magic, martial arts, mecha, and dimension-hopping is impressive. It creates a unique and believable setting that kept me engaged. The comedic elements are also a strong point. There are moments that genuinely made me laugh, and the story has a lighthearted feel that makes it easy to pick up and enjoy. The pacing is also pretty solid for most of the novel.

Areas of Concern

While the world-building is great, the plot can feel a bit like a rollercoaster. It's entertaining, but there are times when the story feels disjointed, and random elements are introduced that can be confusing if you're not paying close attention. Character development is another area where the novel falls short. While the MC has some development, the side characters often feel underdeveloped.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning

The ending of the novel seems to be a point of contention for many readers. Some found it rushed and unsatisfying, with a deus ex machina resolution that undermined the anticipation built up throughout the story. The introduction of the black dragon also seems to mark a turning point where the plot becomes more convoluted.

Final Verdict

Overall, "Bu Sha" is a fun and entertaining read, but it's not without its flaws. If you're looking for a lighthearted adventure with a unique world and don't mind a somewhat uneven plot and underdeveloped characters, then you'll likely enjoy it. However, if you prioritize strong character development and a tightly woven plot, you might find yourself disappointed. I'd say it's worth checking out if you're in the mood for something different, just be prepared for a bit of a bumpy ride.

Synopsis

Liola—the best assassin in his world—has vowed to kill no more. He was being chased by an assassination organization when he accidentally dropped into a parallel universe: through a dimensional gate and into poor teenager Kaiser’s apartment. Instead of going to the government shelter for lost dimensional travelers, Liola and Kaiser wind up going to school together. Liola has been trying his best to live the life of an ordinary person, but after certain things happen one after the other, he begins to realize that being an ordinary person could be harder than being an assassin.
