My Thoughts on After Running Away With a Cub, I Became Everyone’s Favourite
Okay, buckle up, because "After Running Away With a Cub, I Became Everyone’s Favourite" was quite the ride. I went in expecting fluff, maybe some drama, and a cute cub. What I got was... well, a mixed bag. This novel definitely has its charm, but it also has some glaring flaws that I can't ignore.
First Impressions
The premise is undeniably intriguing. A transmigrated actor, a surprise pregnancy, and a hasty escape? I was hooked! The initial chapters were genuinely funny, with a healthy dose of misunderstandings and chaotic energy. I was ready for a lighthearted romp.
What Works Well
The humor, when it lands, is gold. I found myself chuckling at the ML's delusional antics and the sheer absurdity of some situations. The beginning of the story is definitely the strongest, and the initial dynamic between the MC and ML is amusing. The face-slapping moments, while not always satisfactory to everyone, provided some catharsis. There is also a quality in the writing that can be enjoyable, and the plot, despite all its cliches, is well-written.
Areas of Concern
However, the novel unfortunately stumbles as it progresses. The MC's character development, or lack thereof, is a major sticking point. He starts off as cunning and intelligent but devolves into someone frustratingly naive and seemingly loses his brain cells along the way. I also felt the story suffered from a lack of focus. The plot points that were introduced early on, such as the MC’s career aspirations and the "running away" aspect, are quickly abandoned. And while the title promises a cub, the story ends before the baby is even born!
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Many have expressed disappointment at the treatment of the original MC and his love interests, and I understand their concerns. The way the narrative vilifies him and his family feels unnecessarily harsh. Also, the ML's parents' obsession with grandsons and the guilt-tripping surrounding the pregnancy are definitely uncomfortable.
Final Verdict
"After Running Away With a Cub, I Became Everyone’s Favourite" is a flawed but ultimately passable read. If you're looking for a brainless, overdramatic story with plenty of fluff and don't mind some questionable character choices and plot inconsistencies, this might be for you. But if you're seeking depth, consistent characterization, and a satisfying resolution, you might want to look elsewhere. I would rate it a generous 3/5.
