My Thoughts on After Amnesia, Me and My Rival Fell in Love In A Variety Show
First Impressions
Okay, so I dove into After Amnesia, Me and My Rival Fell in Love In A Variety Show expecting some lighthearted fun, and that's... mostly what I got. The premise alone – amnesia, rivals, a reality show, love – screams "guilty pleasure," and honestly, sometimes that's exactly what I'm in the mood for. However, I will say that my initial excitement was slightly tempered after getting a few chapters in.
What Works Well
The early romance is definitely a strong point. The story thrives on the sweetness and humor of the situation. The dynamic between the MC and ML, especially with the amnesia twist, creates a lot of potential for funny and heartwarming moments. If you're looking for a brain-off, healing read with plenty of fluff, this story definitely has potential. I found myself smiling at their interactions, and the showbiz setting adds a layer of fun and ridiculousness that I appreciated.
Areas of Concern
However, I did find myself agreeing with some of the criticisms I've seen floating around. While the "fluff" is enjoyable for a while, I started craving a little more substance. The plot felt somewhat thin, relying heavily on the MC and ML being attractive and wealthy. The story leans heavily into wish-fulfillment territory, which can be a turn-off for some readers (including me, at times). The constant reminders of the ML's wealth and status felt a bit repetitive and, frankly, a little shallow. I also felt the amnesia plotline could have been explored with a bit more nuance and depth.
Final Verdict
After Amnesia, Me and My Rival Fell in Love In A Variety Show is a mixed bag. If you're in the mood for pure, unadulterated fluff and don't mind a thin plot and wish-fulfillment elements, you might enjoy it. But if you're looking for a story with depth, complex characters, and a realistic portrayal of amnesia, you might want to look elsewhere. For me, it was an okay read, good for a quick distraction, but not something that will stick with me for long.
