My Thoughts on Wake Up, Your Vest Has Fallen Off
"Wake Up, Your Vest Has Fallen Off" promised a cute school BL romance, and I have to say, it largely delivered. The story follows two college students, an academically gifted architecture student (our MC) and a more carefree son of a wealthy family of doctors (our ML), as their paths intertwine both online and in real life. Their journey from online acquaintances to roommates to lovers is filled with sweet moments and plenty of comedic misunderstandings.
First Impressions
The initial setup is engaging. The contrast between the two main characters immediately piqued my interest. The MC is portrayed as a hard-working, independent student, while the ML seems more laid-back, and perhaps a bit spoiled. This contrast sets the stage for interesting character dynamics and growth. The livestreaming element added a modern twist that kept me hooked.
What Works Well
What I particularly enjoyed was the realistic portrayal of college life. The characters felt like genuine students, juggling studies, part-time jobs, and the complexities of young adulthood. The author did a good job of showcasing the MC's dedication to his studies, even when he's facing financial difficulties. I also appreciated the exploration of the ML's family dynamics, particularly the pressures he faces as the second child in a family of high achievers. The romance itself is undeniably sweet, with plenty of "dog food" moments once the characters finally get together. The parrot they adopt together definitely added to the cuteness factor! I also found the gradual unfolding of their feelings for each other, and the MC's initial emotional density, to be endearing.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, I do wish there had been more exploration of the ML's perspective. While we do get glimpses into his thoughts and feelings, the story is primarily told from the MC's point of view. A more balanced perspective would have added depth to the narrative. Also, I definitely agree that more extras would have been welcome. I was left wanting to see more of their relationship after they officially became a couple.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Wake Up, Your Vest Has Fallen Off" is a delightful and heartwarming BL romance. The characters are relatable, the plot is engaging, and the romance is genuinely sweet. Despite a few minor drawbacks, I found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable read. If you're looking for a cute and fluffy college romance with a touch of humor and realistic character growth, this one is definitely worth checking out.
