My Thoughts on The Villainous Classmate is My Lucky Star
"The Villainous Classmate is My Lucky Star" is a completed novel that has garnered a lot of positive attention, and after diving in, I can definitely see why. With genres ranging from comedy to school life, this novel is a wild ride with a lot to offer, even if it has a few bumps along the way.
First Impressions
Initially, I was a bit unsure. The premise of a transmigration story with a gender-bent twist felt familiar, but the early chapters were engaging enough to keep me reading. The main character, Wen Yantong, isn't your typical super-genius transmigrator, which I found refreshing. Instead, she felt like a normal person thrown into an extraordinary situation.
What Works Well
The best part of this novel is the characters. The male lead, Chi Jingxi, starts off cold but gradually reveals a softer side, especially when it comes to his friends. The friendships feel genuine and heartwarming. I also appreciated the slow-burn romance. It wasn't instantaneous; it developed naturally as the characters got to know each other. The comedy is also a major draw. The jokes aren't forced, and I found myself genuinely laughing throughout the story. Many readers have praised the smooth development and the characters' growth as a main selling point.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, it's not without its flaws. The plot can be a bit all over the place with many loose ends. Wen Yantong's "lucky star" ability seems to fade into the background after the initial chapters. Some readers may find the female lead's initial lack of intelligence frustrating, though it's worth noting that she does grow and develop throughout the story. The overall plot may not be as deep as some readers want.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some parts of the novel might not be for everyone. In the latter half of the story, I noticed the FL faking her death to get out of the academy, but she still occupies a house granted from the emperor to the male scholar Wen Yantong which is an illogical thing to do after you fake your death in order to avoid the crime of deceiving the emperor by dressing as a male in the academy.
Final Verdict
Overall, "The Villainous Classmate is My Lucky Star" is a fun and lighthearted read. The strong characters, smooth romance, and comedic moments make it worth checking out. While it has some plot holes and the female lead might not appeal to everyone, the heartwarming friendships and engaging story make it an enjoyable experience. I'd recommend it if you're looking for a sweet and funny novel with a dash of ancient China.
