My Thoughts on The Things I Can Do for You
The Things I Can Do for You promised a dark romance, and while it delivered on some of those elements, my overall experience was a bit of a mixed bag. The story, centered around an arranged marriage and childhood connections, certainly had potential, but I found myself wishing for a little more depth.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by what felt like the beginning of a tragic memoir. There's a certain European ambience that permeates the story, and the setup with the aristocracy and broken engagement had me intrigued. I was ready for a deep dive into complex emotions and character struggles.
What Works Well
What I appreciated most was the sense of justice the main character ultimately receives. There's a definite "yandere fest" element that comes into play, and while that might not be everyone's cup of tea, it does provide a satisfying sense of retribution for the MC. The story is also a relatively quick read, and the plot moves along at a decent pace. The author clearly had a specific vision in mind, and they executed it efficiently, even if it felt a little sporadic at times. I also think the relationship between the father and stepson was more interesting than the main couple.
Areas of Concern
Honestly, the story felt a little underdeveloped. I yearned for more fleshed-out characters and a deeper exploration of the themes presented. While the "dark romance" tag is accurate to some extent, I felt the main couple's relationship leaned more towards sweet than truly dark. The story feels very short and some of the themes are not explored.
Final Verdict
The Things I Can Do for You is an easy and quick read if you are looking for a dark romance. The characters are interesting and the plot moves quickly. I give it a 3.5/5.
