My Thoughts on The Seeing Eye Dog
"The Seeing Eye Dog" is a unique novel that I found myself surprisingly invested in. It's a blend of genres – drama, romance, slice of life, and even a touch of the supernatural – that come together to create a compelling, albeit sometimes heartbreaking, story.
First Impressions
Initially, I was a bit hesitant, the premise of a CEO reincarnated as a puppy seemed a little out there. However, I quickly became engrossed in the story of Lu Chengye and his bond with the young man who becomes his owner, and later, his guide.
What Works Well
The strength of this novel lies in its characters and their relationships. The main leads are well-developed. I particularly enjoyed the slow-burn development of their relationship, even with its unusual starting point. I also appreciated the author's handling of the ML's disability, portraying his struggles and triumphs realistically. The story explores themes of family conflict, devotion, and the challenges of overcoming adversity. I found the overall translation quality impressive, which made it easy to get lost in the story.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the novel overall, I did find some elements that could have been improved. Several readers found the ending to be rushed, and I can see that perspective. The transition of the MC back into human form felt somewhat abrupt, and I would have liked to see more exploration of the impact on their relationship. Some felt the villains were a bit one-dimensional, particularly the female characters. While the possessiveness of MC can be charming, it can also be off-putting.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Be aware that the story involves the MC being reincarnated as a dog and eventually returning to his human form. The ML experiences vision loss and relies heavily on the MC for support. There is also a significant time skip and some family drama involving questions of paternity and inheritance. The MC does die as a dog and is reborn as a human.
Final Verdict
Despite a few minor flaws, "The Seeing Eye Dog" is a worthwhile read. If you're looking for a story that will tug at your heartstrings and leave you contemplating the nature of love and connection, I recommend giving it a try. I'd rate it a solid 4 out of 5 stars. Just be sure to have some tissues handy!
