My Thoughts on The Beginning
"The Beginning" certainly grabbed my attention with its blend of adventure, comedy, mystery, and even a touch of the supernatural. It's a unique story that took me on a thrilling ride, and while it wasn't perfect, the overall experience was definitely worthwhile.
First Impressions
Initially, I was intrigued by the premise. A time loop with ordinary protagonists trying to prevent a tragedy? It felt fresh and relatable. I dove in expecting a thrilling mystery, and for the most part, that's exactly what I got. The early chapters pulled me in quickly, and I found myself invested in the characters' struggles.
What Works Well
The character development really stood out to me. The protagonists felt like real people, flaws and all. I especially appreciated that they weren't overpowered; they were just trying to survive and figure things out. The comedic elements were a welcome surprise, providing moments of levity amidst the tension. The mystery itself was well-crafted, keeping me guessing and eager to uncover the truth. The world-building was also impressive, creating an immersive experience. I found myself completely engrossed in the story.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the novel immensely, there were a few areas that could be improved. The translation, while generally good, sometimes had some issues with pronoun usage ("he," "she," "they") and occasional redundancy, which could be a bit confusing. Also, while the first part of the story was excellent, I found the second part less engaging. It felt a bit like a self-insert fanfic, which wasn't quite my cup of tea.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers might find the following information revealing, so proceed with caution!
The plot involves our protagonists attempting to break a time loop, which they eventually succeed in doing. The mystery revolves around a bombing, and the characters must investigate the reasons behind it. Some of the characters have surprising hidden depths, defying initial appearances.
Final Verdict
Overall, "The Beginning" is a captivating novel with a unique premise and well-developed characters. Despite some minor translation issues and a less compelling second part, the engaging storyline, comedic moments, and thrilling mystery make it a worthwhile read. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a story that blends genres and offers a refreshing take on the time loop trope. I give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
