My Thoughts on Seeking Good Temptation
"Seeking Good Temptation" is a wild ride, and I mean wild. This novel throws you headfirst into a world of yanderes, scheming, and reverse harem antics that are both hilarious and, at times, genuinely unsettling. Buckle up, because it's a bumpy but entertaining journey.
First Impressions
My initial thought was, "Okay, this is different." The premise is bonkers: our protagonist is trapped in an otome game, forced to seduce seven (yes, seven) love interests, all while trying to avoid triggering their yandere tendencies and getting herself killed. The first chapter alone sets the tone – a kiss from one love interest leading to another stabbing her out of jealousy. It's over-the-top and sets the stage for the dark humor that follows.
What Works Well
The main draw for me is the protagonist. She's not your typical Mary Sue. Having already gone through this hellish game 999 times, she's emotionally detached and brutally pragmatic. Her internal monologues, juxtaposed with her "white lotus" act, are comedy gold. Seeing her manipulate these dangerously obsessive men while internally cursing their existence is incredibly satisfying. The author does a great job balancing the reverse harem dynamics, making it believable (in a twisted way) that she could juggle so many relationships at once. Each love interest is unique, from the college sweetheart to the mafia boss, each with their own brand of crazy. The novel also plays with common tropes in a way that feels fresh and self-aware, adding to the humor.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, the ending felt a bit rushed and ambiguous. It leaves you wondering if the MC ever truly escapes the clutches of her obsessive love interests, which can be frustrating. Also, the constant descriptions of the MC's appearance felt a bit repetitive and unnecessary.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Several reviews mention the ending, where the MC returns to her original world but may still be linked to the game's world through her dreams. It's also revealed that the love interests all die in the game world after her "escape," setting the stage for a potentially endless cycle.
Final Verdict
"Seeking Good Temptation" is a darkly comedic and surprisingly engaging read. If you're a fan of reverse harems, yanderes, and protagonists who are more than meets the eye, I think you'll enjoy this one. Just be prepared for a potentially unsatisfying ending and a whole lot of over-the-top drama. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
