My Thoughts on Practice Buddhism with Desire
First Impressions
"Practice Buddhism with Desire" certainly grabbed my attention with its intriguing title and mix of historical, mature, and romance genres. The premise of a naive protagonist and a complex relationship with a figure of religious authority immediately made me curious. I dove in expecting a story that would explore the tensions between faith and desire, and while it delivered on some fronts, it also left me with mixed feelings.
What Works Well
The author excels at creating a vivid atmosphere of ancient times. The descriptions are rich and immersive, and I could easily picture the setting and the characters within it. The exploration of the female protagonist's naivete is also handled quite well, at least initially. I found her innocence endearing and her journey of discovery compelling. There's no denying the story delivers on its smut tag. If you're looking for a purely sensual experience, this novel certainly provides that.
Areas of Concern
However, I did find some aspects of the story troubling. The male lead's actions border on manipulative, and the power imbalance between him and the female protagonist made me uncomfortable at times. While the story attempts to address this imbalance later on, I felt the initial transgressions were glossed over too quickly. This resulted in a sense of unease that lingered throughout my reading experience. The plot felt secondary to the explicit content.
