My Thoughts on My Ex Dumped Me, so I Got a New Girlfriend
Okay, so I dove into "My Ex Dumped Me, so I Got a New Girlfriend" with a healthy dose of skepticism and a sprinkle of morbid curiosity. The title alone promised a rollercoaster of emotions, and I wasn't entirely disappointed.
First Impressions
The initial chapters pulled me in with a fairly standard, yet engaging, setup. Our protagonist, fresh off a breakup, finds solace (and more) in a new relationship. The writing style is easy to follow, and the story moves at a decent clip, focusing primarily on the blossoming romance between the MC and his new girlfriend.
What Works Well
What really shines in this novel is the fluffy interaction between the main couple. The author does a great job of portraying their connection, making their scenes together a definite highlight. The comedic elements also land well, providing a nice contrast to the underlying drama. I found myself genuinely invested in their relationship and rooting for them to overcome the inevitable obstacles. The pacing of their relationship felt natural and I enjoyed how the author built their relationship over time.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the main romance, I did find myself a bit frustrated with the lingering presence of the ex-girlfriend, Sayuri. While the author is clearly setting up some kind of mystery surrounding her actions and motivations, the slow burn on this particular plot point felt a little too slow for my taste. I am hoping the reason for the slow burn is well worth the wait.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Okay, so this is where I get into spoiler territory. The childhood friend rejecting the MC is a bit of a gut punch, especially since we don't get a ton of backstory on their relationship. It's later implied that her current relationship might not be genuine, which adds another layer of intrigue, but also a layer of frustration.
Final Verdict
Overall, "My Ex Dumped Me, so I Got a New Girlfriend" is an enjoyable read with a strong focus on the central romance. While the pacing on some subplots could be improved, the engaging writing and compelling characters kept me hooked. If you're a fan of lighthearted romantic comedies with a touch of drama, this one is definitely worth checking out. I'm giving it a solid 3.7/5 – enough to keep me coming back for more, but with room for improvement.
