My Thoughts on My Dragon

"My Dragon" promised a fluffy, feel-good read, and for the most part, it delivered. It's the kind of story you pick up when you need a break from heavier plots, something sweet and uncomplicated. While it wasn't perfect, I found myself charmed by the central romance and the overall lighthearted tone.

First Impressions

The initial setup is intriguing: a struggling actor, Nan HuaiLin, meets a mysterious and powerful dragon, Fei Cheng. This chance encounter completely alters the course of his life. I was immediately drawn in by the potential for a unique romance and the promise of something a little bit different from your typical showbiz story. The early chapters had a nice blend of slice-of-life elements and a touch of fantasy.

What Works Well

The strongest aspect of "My Dragon" is definitely the relationship between Nan HuaiLin and Fei Cheng. It's a devoted, caring romance with minimal misunderstandings, which is a refreshing change of pace. Many readers seem to really enjoy the "dog food" aspect – the constant displays of affection. I also appreciated the author's choice to resolve conflicts quickly and smoothly. The dragon babies are undeniably cute and add another layer of sweetness to the story. I found the initial focus on Nan HuaiLin's acting career to be genuinely engaging, showcasing his hard work and dedication.

Areas of Concern

While I enjoyed the fluff, I can see why some readers found the latter half of the novel to be somewhat lacking in substance. The plot does lose some momentum after the main couple gets together, and the constant stream of supportive reactions from everyone around them can become a bit repetitive. The transformation of the MC's looks through magical pregnancy bothered me, and I can see how it could be seen as cheap and sending a bad message. I also noticed some readers felt the family dynamic with the children wasn't as fleshed out as it could have been, and the showbiz elements faded into the background.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning

Some readers have pointed out plot points that may be considered spoilers! Proceed with caution.

Several people mentioned feeling that the ending was abrupt. Some found the reveal of Nan HuaiLin's adoption and the mysterious red bird (potentially a phoenix connection) were left unresolved, leaving them wanting more explanation.

Final Verdict

Overall, "My Dragon" is a pleasant and easy read if you're in the mood for a fluffy romance with some fantasy elements. It's not a groundbreaking novel, and it does have its flaws, but the sweet relationship between the main characters and the lack of unnecessary drama make it a worthwhile choice for a lighthearted escape. I'd recommend it if you're looking for something low-stakes and heartwarming.
