Author profile

My Thoughts on Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo?

"Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo?" is a novel that I found myself surprisingly drawn into, despite some reservations. It's a wild ride through a world called Little Garden, where myths, legends, and overpowered teenagers collide in a series of high-stakes games. While it's not perfect, I think it offers a unique blend of action, comedy, and fantasy that's worth checking out.

First Impressions

The premise is immediately intriguing: three gifted teenagers, bored with their ordinary lives, are summoned to a fantastical world where they can use their abilities in challenging games against gods, demons, and other powerful beings. It's a classic isekai setup, but with a twist. Instead of simply beating up bad guys, the focus is on restoring a community and navigating the intricate rules of Little Garden.

What Works Well

I really enjoyed the characters, especially the main trio. They each have distinct personalities and powers that complement each other, and their interactions are genuinely amusing. I found the concept of Gift Games to be clever and well-executed. The author clearly put a lot of thought into the rules, stakes, and rewards, which made the games feel exciting and unpredictable. The blending of mythology, fairy tales, and historical figures into the games added another layer of depth and intrigue. I also appreciated that the story, for the most part, avoids getting sidetracked, with side plots ultimately contributing to the main narrative.

Areas of Concern

While the novel has many strengths, I also encountered some issues that held it back from being a truly exceptional read. The sheer amount of exposition and trivia dumps can be overwhelming. While the mythological and historical references are interesting, they often felt excessive and unnecessary, slowing down the pacing. The power system, based on "gifts" that can be easily gained or lost, felt somewhat inconsistent and made it difficult to invest in the characters' power progression. Finally, the lack of romance was a bit disappointing.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning

Some readers might find the "plot armor" or deus ex machina moments to be a bit jarring, especially in the later volumes. The ending, in particular, has been criticized for relying too heavily on plot convenience.

Final Verdict

Overall, I'd give "Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo?" a solid 4 out of 5 stars. It's a fun and engaging read with well-developed characters, a unique setting, and exciting games. While the excessive exposition, inconsistent power system, and lack of romance are drawbacks, they don't detract too much from the overall experience. If you're looking for a lighthearted and action-packed isekai adventure with a touch of mythology, this novel is definitely worth a try.
