My Thoughts on Loving You Dearly
"Loving You Dearly" promised a second chance romance with a hint of drama, and while it delivered on some fronts, it left me with mixed feelings overall. The premise of a reborn female lead trying to navigate her past relationship with a potentially obsessive male lead was intriguing, but the execution wasn't always smooth.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the idea of a character getting a do-over. The female lead, Ning Zhen, returns to her high school days with fragmented memories of a past life where she seemingly died protecting Lu Zhi. The early chapters set the stage for a cautious and perhaps even fearful relationship dynamic, and I was curious to see how it would unfold.
What Works Well
The author does a decent job of portraying the male lead's intense devotion to Ning Zhen. There's a clear sense that he's completely captivated by her, and some readers found his unwavering affection quite touching. The story also explores the female lead's internal conflict well, as she struggles to reconcile her past memories with her present feelings. Her timidity is also understandable given her past trauma. The pacing is good and the writing addictive, making it easy to keep reading.
Areas of Concern
My main reservation stems from the male lead's behavior. While some see his actions as devoted, others find them overbearing and even bordering on problematic. There were times when his persistence felt less like romantic pursuit and more like a disregard for Ning Zhen's boundaries. Her repeated attempts to distance herself were often met with his relentless pursuit, creating a dynamic that felt uncomfortable. The twist towards the end also felt out of place and unnecessary.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Several readers mentioned a major plot twist occurring around chapter 71 that drastically changed the tone and direction of the story. Apparently, the male lead has a family of yanderes, I can understand how this plot point could feel jarring and disconnected from the rest of the narrative. Also, the ML has an accident where he is asleep for 7 days and then has also been reborn.
Final Verdict
"Loving You Dearly" is a mixed bag. While the premise is interesting and the male lead's devotion can be seen as touching, the execution falls short in some key areas. The female lead's timidity, combined with the male lead's borderline obsessive behavior, creates a dynamic that may not appeal to all readers. If you enjoy stories with intense, albeit potentially problematic, relationships and are willing to overlook some plot inconsistencies, you might find this novel enjoyable. However, if you prefer romances with clear boundaries and healthy communication, this might not be the story for you. Ultimately, I'd give it a cautious recommendation.
