My Thoughts on Infinity Armament
"Infinity Armament" promised a thrilling ride through familiar movie worlds with a game-like twist, and after diving in, I've got some thoughts. It's a novel with a lot of potential, but also a few quirks that might not appeal to everyone.
First Impressions
The premise immediately grabbed me: a protagonist thrown into movie scenarios, fighting for survival with game-like mechanics. Many readers have compared it to "Terror Infinity," which piqued my interest. The initial chapters were easy to get into, and I appreciated the fast-paced action.
What Works Well
What I found most compelling was the protagonist. He's portrayed as intelligent, calculating, and pragmatic, which makes his decisions feel believable, even when they're morally gray. I liked that he wasn't overly righteous. The tactical elements and the way he uses his knowledge to navigate the movie worlds are definite strengths. I also appreciated the translation quality.
Areas of Concern
However, I did find some inconsistencies in the main character's behavior as the story progressed. At times, his actions felt contradictory to his initial principles, and some of his moral pronouncements came across as hypocritical. I also noticed that the power balance within the team seemed skewed. Other team members gain powerful abilities and bloodlines far quicker than the MC, who seems to rely on guns and special bullets.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers have pointed out issues with a mutant child scenario. It was questioned why the MC let the mutant kid live, which felt out of character, especially since the kid had already stolen a document and endangered the group.
Final Verdict
"Infinity Armament" is a mixed bag. It has a compelling premise, a charismatic protagonist, and exciting action sequences. The game elements are well-integrated, and the translation is solid. However, inconsistencies in character behavior and some plot contrivances hold it back. If you're a fan of the "infinity" genre and can overlook these flaws, it's worth a read. Just be prepared for a few bumps along the way. Overall, I'd give it a tentative 3.5 out of 5.
