My Thoughts on I Reincarnated as a Mob in a Magical Girl Anime, and After Repeatedly Saving Them from Near-Destruction as a Mysterious Entity, They All Turned Yandere
This title certainly grabbed my attention! The premise of reincarnating as a mob character in a magical girl anime, only to trigger a yandere harem by secretly saving the day, is undeniably intriguing. I dove in eager to see how it would play out.
First Impressions
The initial chapters hooked me with their blend of familiar tropes and fresh twists. The concept of a mob character wanting to remain in the background while also being compelled to protect the magical girls as a mysterious, overpowered entity, has a lot of potential for both comedy and action.
What Works Well
I appreciate the story's balance between the MC's "mob" life and his secret identity. It avoids leaning too heavily on one aspect, creating a more engaging narrative. I also found the MC to be a refreshing change from the typical beta or unlikeable protagonist. He's level-headed, offers sound advice, and his actions genuinely impact the magical girls' development. The action sequences are also thrilling and well-paced. I particularly enjoyed the dynamic with Luna, and her character arc was compelling.
Areas of Concern
While the premise is strong, the execution has some flaws. The pacing can feel inconsistent, with some plot points feeling rushed while others drag on. The introduction of multiple magical girls early on, with only one receiving significant development, also felt unbalanced. I also noticed that some plot points are introduced without sufficient build-up.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
I did have some issues with the relationship between Luna and the MC shifting from friends to a "dog and owner" dynamic after his alter ego saved her from depression. This felt a bit jarring and concerning.
Final Verdict
"I Reincarnated as a Mob in a Magical Girl Anime..." is a mixed bag. The concept is genuinely interesting, and the MC's character and the action sequences are definite highlights. However, the pacing issues and underdeveloped plot points hold it back. If you're willing to overlook some flaws and enjoy a blend of action, comedy, and yandere romance, this could be an enjoyable read. But be prepared for some inconsistencies along the way.
