My Thoughts on I Raised a Big Boss in the ’90s
First Impressions
"I Raised a Big Boss in the ’90s" had me hooked with its premise: a modern woman transmigrating into a novel set in the bustling 90s. The idea of navigating a new era while trying to secure a good future for a bunch of potentially powerful kids? Intriguing! I dove in expecting a heartwarming tale of family, ambition, and maybe a little romance. What I found was... a bit more complicated.
What Works Well
The strongest aspect, for me, was the found family dynamic. The interactions between Su Weiwei (the MC) and her husband's younger siblings were genuinely enjoyable. Watching her guide them, invest in their futures, and build genuine connections was heartwarming. I also appreciated that Su Weiwei wasn't portrayed as a saint. Her initial motivations were self-serving, and her journey to truly caring for the family felt more realistic because of it. The face-slapping moments were, admittedly, quite satisfying, especially when dealing with the truly awful antagonists. The business ventures and the way she navigates the opportunities of the 90s were engaging.
Areas of Concern
However, there were elements that held the novel back from being a complete win. The romance felt... lukewarm. I felt like the relationship between Su Weiwei and her husband, He Donglin, lacked genuine connection. The constant "gun friend" label, even after marriage, felt frustrating and diminished the emotional impact of their interactions. I also noticed the repetitive descriptions of the MC's beauty and the ML's sexiness became tiresome. Many of the secondary characters felt flat, and I wanted more depth in their development, especially the siblings. The plot also relied too heavily on miscommunication and secrets.

"I Raised a Big Boss in the ’90s" is an okay read if you're looking for a time-passing novel with a focus on family dynamics and business ventures in a historical setting. However, be prepared for a lukewarm romance, frustrating character inconsistencies, and a plot that sometimes relies too heavily on clichés and miscommunication. I'd give it a 3 out of 5 stars. It has its moments, but it ultimately falls short of its full potential.
