My Thoughts on I Heard That I’m Super Fierce
"I Heard That I’m Super Fierce" promised a unique blend of horror and comedy, and after diving in, I can definitely see why it has garnered such a dedicated following. It's a wild ride through a horror-themed VR game, where the protagonist, Lin You, doesn't just survive – she thrives, and often at the expense of the very ghosts meant to terrify her.
First Impressions
Initially, the translation felt a little rough around the edges, making it somewhat difficult to fully immerse myself in the story. However, as I progressed, the writing smoothed out considerably, allowing me to better appreciate the author's creative vision. I quickly became invested in seeing just how Lin You would hilariously dominate each new horror scenario.
What Works Well
The core strength of this novel lies in its protagonist. Lin You is a fearless, clever, and often downright absurd character. Her unconventional methods for dealing with supernatural threats are consistently entertaining. I found myself laughing out loud at her audacity and the sheer ridiculousness of some of her solutions. The premise of a horror game where the ghosts are more afraid of the player than the other way around is brilliantly executed. The story's pacing is also commendable, with a constant stream of action and problem-solving that kept me engaged. I particularly enjoyed the segments showcasing forum posts from other players, which added another layer of humor and world-building.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall experience, I can see why some readers might find the story a bit repetitive. The formula of Lin You entering a new scenario and effortlessly outsmarting the monsters can become predictable after a while. I also felt that Lin You's character arc was somewhat lacking. She remains consistently OP throughout the story, which reduces tension and stakes.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers might be surprised by the romance element introduced later in the story. The male lead's identity and the abruptness of their relationship might not appeal to everyone, especially given the story's primary focus on horror and comedy.
Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "I Heard That I’m Super Fierce" is a highly entertaining read. If you're looking for a novel that subverts the horror genre with a strong, hilarious female lead, then this is definitely worth checking out. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good laugh and doesn't mind a bit of absurdity. I'm giving it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
