My Thoughts on Heavenly Farmer

Heavenly Farmer promised a delightful blend of slice-of-life farming with the fantastical elements of xianxia. While the initial premise hooked me with its unique system and the protagonist's journey, the overall experience was a bit of a mixed bag.

First Impressions

The beginning was certainly strong. I was drawn in by the idea of a regular guy stumbling into a heaven-sent plant-cultivation system. The early chapters held a certain charm, especially as the MC started to leverage his newfound abilities to solve problems and improve his life. The blend of rural simplicity with the supernatural was quite appealing, and I found myself eager to see how he would develop his farm and his powers.

What Works Well

The core concept of combining deity, cultivation, and farming techniques in the modern world is genuinely interesting. I appreciated that the story focused on farming as a central element, rather than just a side activity. The protagonist's initial efforts to learn and grow, both literally and figuratively, were engaging. The slice-of-life aspects, such as opening a restaurant and contributing to society with his unique plants, added a nice touch. For a good portion of the story, I was invested in seeing how the MC would navigate his unusual circumstances and use his abilities to benefit himself and those around him.

Areas of Concern

Unfortunately, the novel's quality seemed to decline significantly in the later chapters. I felt a distinct sense of rushing and a lack of depth in the plot development. Time skips became frequent, and solutions to problems felt too convenient and abrupt. The introduction of sci-fi elements, such as nukes and inter-dimensional travel, felt jarring and inconsistent with the established world. Furthermore, the ending felt incomplete, leaving several mysteries unresolved. The author's apparent loss of interest in the story was palpable, which ultimately detracted from my overall enjoyment.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning

Several readers expressed disappointment with the ending, citing rushed plot developments and a shift in tone. The protagonist's actions in the later chapters, particularly regarding international politics and conflicts, seemed out of character and morally questionable. The abrupt conclusion left many plot threads unresolved, and the overall sense of closure was lacking.

Final Verdict

Heavenly Farmer had the potential to be a truly great novel, but ultimately fell short due to its rushed ending and inconsistent plot development. While the initial premise and slice-of-life elements were engaging, the later chapters felt disjointed and unsatisfying. I would recommend this novel with caution, advising readers to lower their expectations for the ending and appreciate the earlier chapters for their charm and originality.

Synopsis

Accidentally, Ye Xiaochen became new generation of Heavenly Farmer (Shen Nong), the treasure in the eyes of deities of three realms. Moon fairy’s rabbit eats only the carrots grown from his farm. The heavenly troop which was formed from the magical beans, came out from his farm. The ninth level elixir which was just released, he supplied the materials for it. Ye Xiaochen’s goal is to become the overlord of agriculture, not only in earth but also in whole three realms. I want the heavens to use agricultural products that I plant, I want all the sentient beings in three realms to eat food made from my vegetables, I want all the gods to give up the idea of only swallowing air and eat meals three times in a day just like a normal person.
