My Thoughts on Good Man Training System
"Good Man Training System" is quite the ride, a web novel that took me on a tour through different worlds and moral quandaries. It's a redemption story at its heart, and while it has some stumbles along the way, I found myself surprisingly invested in the protagonist's journey.
First Impressions
At first, I was a little hesitant. The premise of a "good man training system" sounded potentially preachy. However, the initial arc pulled me in with its focus on hard work and family. The idea of a male lead dedicated to making amends for past mistakes, rather than focusing solely on revenge, was refreshing.
What Works Well
The core strength of this novel lies in its arc-based structure. Each world offers a new scenario where the protagonist must navigate challenges and right the wrongs of his predecessor. I particularly enjoyed how the MC prioritizes the happiness of his spouse and family in each life, creating a sense of warmth and domesticity. The slice-of-life elements, especially when children are involved, added a layer of charm that I appreciated. I also found the portrayal of sensitive topics like mental illness to be thoughtfully handled in some arcs. The concept of the MC's memories being erased after each arc is also a clever way to keep the story fresh and avoid the issue of inconsistent character traits.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed many aspects of the novel, there were definitely some drawbacks. The constant memory resets mean that the protagonist essentially becomes a new character in each arc, which can feel a little disjointed. Some arcs are undeniably weaker than others, leading to pacing issues. Furthermore, I did pick up on some uncomfortable undertones in certain arcs, particularly concerning fatphobic remarks and generalizations about men and women.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
It's important to note that the MC's memory is erased and new memories of the original owner are implanted in him at the end of each arc. This explains why the MC's actions and personality may seem inconsistent.
Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "Good Man Training System" is an engaging read, especially if you're a fan of world-hopping redemption stories with a focus on family and slice-of-life elements. While some arcs may be hit or miss, the overall concept and the protagonist's dedication to making amends make it a worthwhile journey. I'd recommend it to readers looking for a feel-good story with a touch of drama and a lot of heart.
